The 3 Most Common JSON Syntax Errors (and How to Fix Them)
Standard JSON is governed by RFC 8259. Unlike modern JavaScript which allows relaxed syntax, strict JSON engines reject minor formatting deviations:
1. Trailing Commas
Placing a comma after the final property in an object ({"name": "Alex",}) or the last item in an array causes an instant parse crash. KitWharf Auto-Repair strips all trailing commas with one click.
2. Single Quotes Instead of Double Quotes
JSON requires string values and object keys to use double quotes ("key"). Single quotes ('key') are invalid in standard JSON.
3. Unquoted Object Keys
In JavaScript object literals, writing { age: 30 } is valid, but in JSON it must strictly be { "age": 30 }.
